Date: 06-07-2013

Ottawa, ON - On June 5, 2013, Vitala Foods’ Vita D Sunshine Eggs became the latest recipient of the Canadian Grand Prix Healthy Innovation Product Award at the 20th annual Canadian Grand Prix New Product Awards held in Toronto, ON.

“Our sincere congratulations go to the team at Vitala Foods,” says Terry Dean, Director, Health Check. “We are pleased to help celebrate innovative, healthy products on Canadian grocery shelves.”

Created in 2004 by Health Check and the Canadian Council of Grocery Distributors, the Healthy Innovation Product Award helps raise awareness among consumers and manufacturers of the need to bring more healthy choices to the Canadian market. Each year the award is presented to a company whose food product demonstrates exceptional value and quality to Canadian consumers and meets the Health Check nutrient criteria, which were developed by the Foundation’s registered dietitians based on recommendations in Canada’s Food Guide

The Heart and Stroke Foundation’s Health Check program has been supporting the Grand Prix for 11 years.  Health Check is an innovative program that challenges food companies to develop healthy choices for Canadians.

The longest standing industry awards program of its kind, the Grand Prix encourages new product development and innovation – which are vital to the continued growth of Canada’s consumer products industry.
