Cans that can
Date: 06-18-2012
Cans really can make a difference. Just ask Ottawa Food Bank! In this year’s Ottawa edition of Canstruction competition at the Canada Science and Technology Museum, the cans added up to 14,000 pounds of food. This was the first year that Health Check participated in the competition; building up a healthy structure one can at a time.
Each of the 3,000 cans used in the Health Check canstruction depicting fire as timeless technology met the Health Check nutrient criteria. This gave Health Check, working together with grc architects, an extra boost of energy making the structure, which was later awarded the prize for best use of labels.
The competition truly gave cans several noble roles. First, they acted as the building blocks of artistic constructions, including Health Check’s fire. And once Ottawans picked their favourites and the judges gave out the awards, the cans gained another purpose. They were donated to Ottawa’s Food Bank.
