Program Criteria

The Heart and Stroke Foundation’s registered dietitians evaluate each participating grocery product and menu item based on nutrients such as total fat, saturated fat, trans fat, fibre, sodium, calcium and other vitamins and minerals, depending on the food/menu category. The nutrition criteria are developed by the Foundation’s registered dietitians based on the recommendations in Canada’s Food Guide.

Health Check is open to any company as long as its product or menu item meets the nutrition criteria. Each participating company pays a modest fee to cover the costs of the not-for-profit program.
