Food Service - How it works

Make Healthy Choices Work

Consumers are looking for healthy options. The Health Check symbol lets your customers know that your menu item is a wise choice and can contribute to a healthy diet.

Here’s how Health Check works:

Health Check is a guide for consumers to help them choose healthy foods. The nutrient criteria were developed by the Heart and Stroke Foundation’s registered dietitians based on recommendations in Canada’s Food Guide.

Health Check is open to all food companies, food marketing associations, retailers and restaurant chains in Canada. There are three requirements for companies to become involved:

  • Nutrient criteria must exist for the food category in question.
  • The menu item meets the nutrient criteria developed by the Heart and Stroke Foundation’s registered dietitians.
  • The company completes the certification process and formally joins the Health Check program.
