Fibre Facts
Most Canadians do not eat enough fibre rich foods. And that’s too bad, because a diet high in fibre has many positive health benefits.
A diet high in fibre may:
- help decrease our risk of heart disease, obesity and diabetes, and have been linked to a lower incidence of some types of cancer
- help reduce energy (calorie) intake, and may therefore help with weight management
- help regulate blood sugars and blood cholesterol.
Dietary fibre is a naturally occurring plant material that passes through the body undigested. By doing so, fibre aids in healthy bowel function and promotes a feeling of fullness.
