Healthy Lifestyle

Too hard to remember heart health risk factors?  Not with this daily slice of B.R.E.A.D.

Blood Pressure and Blood Cholesterol - Do you know your numbers?

High blood pressure and high blood cholesterol are risk factors for heart disease and stroke.  They are silent conditions - but can be controlled by healthy living and/or by medication.

Relaxation - Have you stopped to smell the roses today?

Let’s face it, our harried lives leave much to be desired.  It’s not the stress that is the problem - today that’s a given.   It’s how we deal with it that counts.  Stress is a risk factor for heart disease, so take a few moments to breathe deeply and relax.

Eating Well - Do you?

Obesity is a risk factor for heart disease and most Canadians eat more fat and less fibre than is desirable.  We are surrounded by choices - to buy, prepare and enjoy heart-healthy foods.  It’s about balance.  The wise choice is yours for the taking.

Active Living - Are you moving?

Activity is a prescription for an endless array of healthy outcomes.  It decreases your risk for heart disease, reduces blood pressure and stress levels, helps you manage your weight, and makes you feel great.  So remember, every day to move a little, and then move a little more.

Don’t smoke!

A pack-a-day smoker has twice the risk for heart disease and stroke as a nonsmoker.  And imagine this - each cigarette burns for 12 minutes, and during that time the smoker inhales for a mere 30 seconds.  Meanwhile, chemicals are given off into the air and many are known causes of cancer.   This is what nonsmokers breathe.  So if you do, think D - Don’t smoke!  For all our sakes.

Make every day another healthy slice of life.
