This time of year — and actually all year round — it is best to stock your cupboards and refrigerator with healthy food items. If certain food is not in the house, you can’t be tempted. You will be surrounded by treats everywhere you go so it is best to keep your house as a healthy eating zone.

  • Plan to stock your freezer with healthy meals, so that even when you are tired you can easily put a healthy dinner on the table with very little effort.
  • Stock the fridge with healthy snacks. Have a container of cut-up vegetables and a bowl of fresh fruit at eye level when you open the fridge.
  • Plan time to exercise. It will help to relieve holiday stress and prevent weight gain.
  • Don’t skip meals. Before going to a party have a light snack such as cut-up veggies or a piece of fruit. This will help to curb your appetite and you are less likely to overindulge.
  • When asked to bring food to a party or planning one in your own home, check out your healthy recipe books and our website to find some great recipes that are lower in fat and sodium and that your guests will love.

Enjoy the holidays, plan time for exercise for the whole family, incorporate healthy recipes into your holiday meals and don’t forget to enjoy your favourite holiday foods, just watch your portion sizes.
